About the Book
Rain of Iron tells the gripping true story of a B-17 Flying Fortress bombardier who flew 34 perilous missions over Nazi-occupied Europe during World War II. Drawn from personal conversations, historical records, and the airman’s own memoir notes, the book captures the chilling uncertainty of each takeoff, the terror of enemy fighter attacks, and the precision required to deliver bombs through relentless flak. Beyond the combat, it reveals the camaraderie, courage, and sacrifice that defined the warriors of the air.
At its heart, Rain of Iron is both a tribute and a love story. It explores the emotional and spiritual resilience of a man sustained by faith, devotion to country, and deep love for family. Through one bombardier’s experience, the book honors a generation that risked everything for freedom and reflects on the enduring strength of the human spirit.
About the Author
Ted Stetson is the author of Rain of Iron, a deeply personal account of his father’s 34 combat missions as a B-17 bombardier, flying missions over Nazi occupied Europe during World War II. With a passion for preserving history and honoring the legacy of the Greatest Generation, Ted conducted years of research, interviews, and personal reflections to bring this remarkable story to life.
Inspired by his father’s courage and the sacrifices of those who served with him, he has created a vivid narrative that blends historical and technical details with the harsh human experience of war. When not writing, Ted enjoys reading, watching BBC murder mysteries with Linda, his wife of 37 years, and spending time with his two children and two grandchildren. Ted lives in beautiful West Des Moines, Iowa with his wonderful family that includes two tabbies, Boots and Gizzy.
